13:25 - 13:50: Data spaces and edge technology as key to European economic sovereignty
What are data spaces and why do we need them to strengthen Europe in its economic sovereignty? What are the specific requirements to achieve this, especially for the manufacturing industry, and what is needed to bring production back to Europe?
In this panel discussion, the experts will answer those questions and will explain how Europe can realise the transformation to a digitally networked industry. Companies should be able to use data sovereignly and jointly across the entire manufacturing and supply chain. This makes digital innovations for more resilience, sustainability, and competitive strength possible. Solutions must be developed on a European and global scale right from the start.

16:30 - 17:00: The importance of decentralised ecosystems
The keynote will explore the “what”, “why”, and “how” of business ecosystems. Borrowing from biology, we will explore key characteristics of ecosystems and how they relate to classical forms of the organization of labor (i.e., in firms or in markets). The talk also indicates the conditions under which ecosystem participants will enjoy the (significant) benefits, and when not: Contrary to common folklore, ecosystems do not solve every problem of today’s world. Most importantly, the exposition will expound on the crucial role of trust (and integration) and how the three most prominent architectural patterns are able to ensure the – varying levels of sovereignty.
